What is the ruling on a committed wife who wears the hijab working as a nurse in a hospital in Sweden that requires wearing a uniform (trousers and a short-sleeved shirt), knowing that she cannot leave her job or studies, and is it permissible for her to continue studying medicine to work as a doctor in the future?

It is not permissible for a wife to wear anything that does not cover her body in front of non-mahram (definition) men. She must wear what covers her, whether she goes out for work or anything else. If nursing work requires her to wear non-covering attire, it is not permissible for her to accept it, nor is it permissible for the husband to allow her to do so. The husband is responsible for his wife and is commanded to prevent her from engaging in unlawful acts. A woman appearing before non-mahram men in non-covering attire is forbidden, in accordance with His (the Almighty’s) saying: "And not display their adornment except what is apparent thereof. And let them draw their headcovers over their bosoms" [An-Nur: 31]. The soundness of religion takes precedence over the soundness of worldly life, and whoever gives up something for Allah, Allah will compensate him with something better.
