What is the meaning of the Hadith: "Whoever sells a house or property, then does not put its price into something similar, will not be blessed in it"? And does "putting it into something similar" include buying another property, building one, or developing land? And what is the reason the Hadith does not prohibit using the price for something other than property?

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever sells a house or property and does not use its price for something similar, it is likely (qaminan) that he will not be blessed in it." The meaning of "qaminan" is deserving and worthy.

Sheikh Al-Albani graded this hadith (definition) as good (hasan (definition)). Among what has been said regarding its meaning:

Allah has made the earth a blessed dwelling. So, whoever sells it and spends its price on something dissimilar will be deprived of blessing because it goes against Allah's decree. Selling real estate and spending its price on movable assets is not recommended, because real estate has many benefits and few drawbacks, unlike movable assets. Therefore, it is preferable not to sell it, and if it is sold, it is preferable to spend its price on land or a house, with the aim of reviving dead land and developing it. This ruling applies unless there is a necessity for selling the property, such as to pay off a debt, in which case it does not fall under the purview of the hadith.
