The question

What is the Sharia ruling on subscribing to optional health and social insurance, for which 2% of the salary is deducted monthly, and which entails medical and tourism benefits and financial assistance, knowing that activating this insurance requires the deduction of a compulsory symbolic amount (150 Algerian Dinars) specifically for life insurance, and is it permissible to allow it to be deducted while ensuring that family members do not benefit from the life insurance?

The answer

Commercial insurance based on uncertainty () and gambling (qimar), whether it pertains to life, health, or anything else, is not permissible to subscribe to voluntarily. However, for one who is compelled to subscribe, the sin is upon the one who compelled them, and it is necessary to limit oneself to the extent of need without exceeding it. Since subscribing to the aforementioned insurance is voluntary, it is not permissible for you to subscribe to it, and only the minimum amount that wards off compulsion is allowed.
