Is it permissible to take money from usurious banks as "financial sponsorship" to fund an academic trip or student projects, and is the prohibition of usury restricted to food, drink, and clothing only?

It is not permissible to borrow from a bank with interest (riba) to finance student projects or academic trips. This is because the prohibition of usurious transactions is general, encompassing luxuries, productive purposes, and academic endeavors, and is not restricted to consumer purposes, unless one reaches a state of necessity that permits the forbidden. As for receiving a financial grant from a bank without an obligation to repay it or pay interest on it, its ruling has been previously clarified in a prior fatwa (definition).
