The question

Is it permissible to pay overdue rent for the coffee shop using the television, video player, and furniture I bought, knowing that the coffee shop owner will use them for unlawful purposes similar to what I used to do? Would I, by doing so, be cooperating with him in sin and transgression? If that is not permissible, then how can the debt owed to the coffee shop owner be settled?

The answer

What the questioner has done, by opening a cafe where drugs are consumed and foreign films are watched, is unlawful () and an evil (munkar). He must repent, feel remorse, seek forgiveness, and give away in charity the unlawful money he earned. It is not permissible for him to sell items that will be used for unlawful purposes, as that constitutes aiding in sin. To pay off debt, these items can be sold to someone who will use them for permissible purposes, or he can borrow money, or pawn them.
