Is it forbidden for one afflicted with a contagious disease to go to the mosque?

A person afflicted with a contagious or harmful disease is excused from attending mosques for congregational prayers; in fact, they are prohibited from doing so, because their presence harms and injures people. Jurists have prohibited the attendance of those with leprosy, vitiligo, or foul odors in mosques, citing the hadith (definition): "Flee from the leper as you flee from the lion," and the hadith: "There should be no harm nor reciprocal harm." Qadi Iyad reported from scholars the prohibition of lepers and those with vitiligo from the mosque, from Friday prayers, and from mixing with people. These excuses remove the sin or dislikeability from the worshipper, but they do not negate the virtue of the congregation.
