The answer

Not every work permits absence from the congregational prayer. If no real harm results from leaving work, then it is not permissible to miss the congregational prayer in the mosque except with a legitimate excuse. The questioner, if he hears the call to prayer, must go to the mosque. If the nature of his work does not allow him to leave, then let him seek someone to pray in congregation with him. If he does not find anyone, let him pray alone. If he is unsure about the number of rak'ahs, let him build upon the lesser number and perform the prostrations of forgetfulness (sujood as-sahw).
