What is the ruling on being negligent in performing some prayers on time, especially the Maghrib prayer? Is it permissible to pray at home or at work instead of the mosque? Is being busy and preoccupied with work a valid excuse for not performing prayers on time? Will Allah bless the work, gain, or sustenance that prevents a man from praying on time? And how can a Muslim achieve devotion (khushu') in his prayer?

Allah has enjoined duties upon His servants and set limits for them. The greatest of these duties after faith is establishing prayer and maintaining it, for prayer is the pillar of Islam, and abandoning it is disbelief, as stated in the Hadith: "The covenant between us and them is prayer; whoever abandons it has disbelieved." Allah has condemned those who neglect it and are lax in it. Therefore, whoever is lax in performing some prayers has committed a great sin, and sincere repentance is obligatory upon them. The jurists have agreed upon the desirability of praying in the mosque in congregation, and they have differed on its obligation. Much work and preoccupation are not an excuse for abandoning prayer. Devotion (khushu') in prayer is among the most important things a servant should direct their attention to, and it can be achieved by preparing the heart for prayer, perfecting ablution, and staying away from distractions.
