What is the ruling on combining the Asr prayer with the Dhuhr prayer after completing the Dhuhr prayer by shortening it, and must the Asr prayer be repeated by shortening it, or by combining and shortening it?

Many scholars stipulated, for the validity of combining two prayers by performing them earlier (jama' taqdim), the intention to combine them at the beginning of the first prayer, and immediate succession between the two prayers. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, however, held that these are not conditions. If your combining was based on the view of the majority (jumhur (definition)), then it is not valid. If it was based on the view of Sheikh al-Islam, then it is valid. We advise you to act upon the saying of the majority, as it is more cautious.
