What is the ruling on the prayer of one who became aware of a slight exposure of their awrah during prayer? And what is the precise measure of a "slight" exposure of the awrah? And is the exposure of the awrah during prostration considered to invalidate the prayer?
Covering the 'awrah (intimate parts) is one of the conditions for the validity of prayer. Scholars have differed regarding the ruling on uncovering a small amount of the 'awrah:
- The Hanbalis are of the view that uncovering a small amount of the 'awrah does not invalidate the prayer, unless the worshipper intentionally uncovers it, in which case their prayer becomes invalid. - If one prays with their 'awrah uncovered, their prayer is invalid and they must repeat it if they were aware of its uncovering. However, if they were unaware, their prayer is valid. - If a part of the 'awrah becomes uncovered during prayer, and it is a large amount that the worshipper immediately covers, it does not invalidate the prayer. If it is a small amount and the worshipper is unaware of its uncovering, it does not invalidate the prayer. However, if it is a small amount and they are aware of it but do not cover it, they must repeat the prayer. - The standard for what constitutes a "small amount" is determined by custom and what is not considered excessive to the eye.
