Is one ghusl sufficient for both Jumu'ah and janabah, or are two separate ghusls required?

A single ghusl (definition) suffices for both Jumu'ah and janabah (definition) according to the majority of scholars. Al-Nawawi, in Al-Majmu', quoted Ibn al-Mundhir as saying that most scholars hold this view. Ibn Qudamah, in Al-Mughni, mentioned that there is no disagreement regarding the sufficiency of a single ghusl with the intention for both purifications. Ibn Qudamah also mentioned two views for someone who performs ghusl for janabah but does not intend for Jumu'ah: the first view holds that it is not sufficient due to the hadith (definition), "And indeed for every person is what he intended"; the second view considers it sufficient because the objective, which is cleanliness, is achieved, and due to the narration, "Whoever performed ghusl on Friday, a ghusl like that for janabah." It is preferable for a person to intend both matters with their ghusl to avoid scholarly disagreement.
