Is rejecting a suitor who proposed, after performing Istikhara prayer and consulting family, and feeling a lack of intellectual compatibility and psychological comfort, considered a mistake, especially since the young man is religious and well-mannered? And what should I do about my feelings of regret and fear that my rejection might be a rejection of God's response to my prayer?

Marrying a person of good religious commitment and character is a virtuous act encouraged by Islamic law, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "If someone whose religious commitment and character you approve proposes to you, then marry him. If you do not do so, there will be tribulation on earth and widespread corruption."

One should not be overly strict in setting conditions for a spouse, as this might lead to delaying marriage and spinsterhood. It is advisable to accept a young man who possesses good religious commitment and character, to repeat the Istikhara prayer (prayer for guidance), to entrust the matter to Allah, and to continue supplicating and repelling negative thoughts.
