The answer

If the worshiper joins the Imam after he has risen from the first bowing (rukūʿ) in the eclipse prayer, then he has missed the first unit (rakʿah) and must make it up with its characteristics after the Imam's salutation, according to the Shāfiʿīs and a narration from the Ḥanbalīs. The Mālikīs, however, hold that whoever catches the second bowing has caught the unit (rakʿah), because the Imam bears what the worshiper missed. As for the Ḥanafīs, their prayer for an eclipse is performed with one bowing in each unit.
