Is delaying prayer due to an unintentional nap after waking up considered negligence, and does it entail sin?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
If you wake up at prayer time, you are not permitted to go back to sleep. However, if the prayer time has passed and then you wake up, you must immediately perform the prayer, and this is the view of the majority of scholars. If sleep overcame you unintentionally, we hope you will not be sinful, for Allah, the Almighty, says: "And there is no blame upon you for that in which you have erred, but [only for] what your hearts intended. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful." But if you know that if you sleep a little, sleep will overcome you and you will miss the prayer, then you must hasten to perform the prayer.
