Is it permissible to recite some supplications to drive away Satan while the Imam is reciting in a loud or silent prayer?

The Sunnah (definition) is for the worshipper to seek refuge with Allah from Satan after the opening supplication (Du'a al-Istiftah) and before the recitation. This applies equally to private and audible prayers, and to both the Imam and the follower (Ma'mum). Seeking refuge is achieved by any phrase that includes seeking protection from Satan, and the best of these is "A'udhu billahi minash-shaytanir-rajeem" (I seek refuge with Allah from Satan, the accursed). An exception is made for the Ma'mum if he fears missing the recitation behind the Imam, or missing the prayer time, or the time for its performance; in such cases, he should proceed with the recitation and not engage in voluntary acts.
