The answer

The missed prayer must be made up immediately before the current prayer, based on Allah's saying: (And establish prayer for My remembrance). If there is a fear of missing the current prayer, or if the congregational prayer is present, it is permissible for the Muslim to start with the current prayer and then make up the missed one, or to join the congregation with the intention of praying the missed prayer and then performing the current one afterwards.
