What is the ruling on a female student combining the Dhuhr and Asr prayers—without a [valid Islamic] excuse—due to the unavailability of a prayer area in her school?

It is from Allah Almighty's mercy upon His servants that He legislated prayer for them, to be performed in any pure place, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The earth has been made for me a place of prostration and a means of purification. So, wherever a man of my Ummah may be when the time for prayer comes, he should pray."

It is not permissible to combine two prayers without a legitimate Shar'i excuse, and some jurists have considered this among the major sins. A Hadith (definition) states: "Whoever combines two prayers without an excuse has committed one of the major sins," but its chain of narration is very weak.

The student must perform the prayer at its prescribed time and should not combine prayers for the sake of studying unless he is unable and would be harmed by neglecting his studies. In such a case, it is permissible for him to combine Dhuhr with Asr out of necessity.
