The question

What is the ruling on someone who, after Fajr prayer, discovered the invalidity of the previous day's Asr prayer and made it up, but did not repeat the Maghrib and Isha prayers due to ignorance of the necessity of sequential order? Is he required to repeat them, and does sequential order include all prayers after the invalid prayer, or is it limited to the prayers of the same day?

The answer

The preponderant opinion is that the order of making up missed prayers is not obligatory, but rather it is recommended to avoid disagreement, and this is the view of the Shafi'is. And according to the opinion that sequencing is obligatory, it is waived by forgetfulness. Therefore, whoever remembers after the Fajr prayer that he did not pray Asr from the previous day, he is only required to make up the Asr prayer, and is not required to repeat any other prayers.
