Does melodic recitation (al-laḥn) in parts of the prayer other than the Fatiḥah, such as the Tasbīḥ, the Tashahhud, the takbīrāt of transition, and the Tasmeeʻ and Taḥmeed, necessitate the prostration of forgetfulness (sujūd al-sahw), as it does in the Fatiḥah? And is the prostration of the imam valid if this occurs from him?
If an error in the recitation (lahn) of Al-Fatiha or the final alters the meaning, it must be corrected, and a prostration of forgetfulness ( al-sahw) is required. As for an error that alters the meaning in the first Tashahhud, or in the tasbih (glorification), or the tasmee' (saying "Sami'a Allahu liman hamidah"), or the transition takbirat (saying "Allahu Akbar" when moving between postures), which are considered obligatory parts of the prayer according to the Hanbali school, sujud al-sahw becomes necessary. This is because anything that invalidates the prayer if done intentionally necessitates sujud al-sahw if done forgetfully or out of ignorance. The majority of scholars, however, hold that tahmeed (praising Allah), tasmee', and transition takbirat are (recommended) acts.
