The answer

The "necessary time" for the Dawn prayer (Salat al-Fajr) begins after the end of its "preferred time," which concludes with the peak of isfar (the clear light in which faces can be distinguished). The Maliki school of thought differs regarding the existence of a "necessary time" for Fajr. Some of them hold that its preferred time extends until sunrise, and consequently, there is no "necessary time" for it.
