The time for Fajr prayer begins with the appearance of the true dawn (al-Fajr al-Sadiq), whose light spreads horizontally from right to left. If worshipers are unsure about the entry of the time, they should delay the prayer slightly until the doubt is removed. For someone who is mostly certain that the time has begun, that is sufficient. For those who do not know the signs of the entry of the time, they may follow a righteous muezzin who is knowledgeable of the prayer times. One should not fall behind in congregational prayer due to its virtue, though the majority (of scholars) hold that it is not obligatory.
