The answer

Repentance has indispensable conditions, which are: immediately ceasing the sin, regretting what has passed, resolving not to return to it, and restoring the rights of the wronged or seeking their forgiveness.

In addition, there are important matters for sincere repentance, among them:

1. That abandoning the sin be for Allah alone, not for any other reason, such as inability or fear of people. 2. Feeling the ugliness and harm of the sin, and not wishing to return to it. 3. Initiating repentance. 4. Making up for any missed rights of Allah, if possible. 5. Leaving the place of disobedience if it might lead to sin. 6. Parting from those who aided in disobedience, and avoiding returning to them. 7. Destroying existing forbidden items, such as intoxicants, musical instruments, and forbidden images. 8. Choosing righteous companions and being diligent in gatherings of remembrance and knowledge to fill time with what is beneficial. 9. Expending one's physical energy in obedience to Allah and seeking what is lawful. 10. Increasing good deeds, for good deeds erase bad deeds.

And whoever is sincere in their repentance, Allah will transform their bad deeds into good deeds.
