Does tayammum remove major ritual impurity?
Source: FtawySummarized from the full answer at Ftawy · imported Sep 2, 2026
The person in a state of janabah (major ritual impurity) must perform ghusl (ritual bath), warming the water if it is cold. If ghusl is not possible due to fear of perishing or worsening an illness, then it is permissible for him to perform tayammum (dry ablution) for each prayer. Whenever he is able to perform ghusl, it becomes obligatory for him, and wudu (minor ablution) is not sufficient in place of ghusl.
