How is the repentance of one who abandons prayer, and is he considered an infidel?

Leaving Salah (definition) is a sin greater than adultery, theft, drinking alcohol, and taking a life, by scholarly consensus. There is a disagreement among scholars regarding whether it constitutes disbelief (kufr). According to the view that it is disbelief, repentance involves uttering the Two Testimonies (Shahadatayn) and praying. He is not required to perform ghusl (definition) (ritual bath) unless he commits something that necessitates it.

Maintaining Salah is one of the greatest means of protection from trials (fitan). Steadfastness in it is achieved by internalizing the danger of abandoning it, striving against oneself, seeking Allah's help, abandoning the company of the wicked, and associating with the righteous. Sincere repentance from all sins is obligatory. Whoever is truthful in his repentance, Allah will help him to be steadfast, as Allah Almighty says: "And those who strive for Us – We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good."
