Linguistically, 'ihtilam' (wet dream) is the vision of intercourse in a dream. Legally (in Islamic law), it is what a sleeping person sees of intercourse, usually accompanied by the discharge of semen. 'Ihtilam' in itself does not entail any religious obligation, as the pen is lifted from the sleeper. Ghusl (definition) (ritual bath) is only obligatory upon the verifiable discharge of semen. The wet dream may be caused by Satan, by one's natural disposition, or by self-talk.
