The question

Is the recommended Friday ghusl, upon departing for the mosque, merely a matter of preference to avoid becoming dirty, or is it not valid if performed earlier? And is it necessary to repeat the ghusl after breaking ablution or sleeping to achieve the reward mentioned in the hadith "Whoever washed and performed ghusl"?

The answer

"The majority of scholars hold the view that the Friday (ritual bath) is sufficient if performed after dawn (Fajr), and it is not required to be immediately followed by going to the mosque. Whereas the majority of the Maliki school stipulates for the validity of the Friday ghusl that it must be connected to going to the mosque, because, in their view, the ghusl is for the prayer, not for the day. According to the Malikis, the ghusl is invalidated by things such as excessive eating or voluntary sleep after it, such that if one who performed ghusl sleeps from dawn until midday (Dhuhr), their ghusl becomes void. As for minor ritual impurity (al- al-asghar), it does not invalidate the ghusl; rather, re-performing wudu' (ablution) suffices.

It is permissible to act upon the view of the majority that the ghusl is for the day, and therefore there is no objection to performing ghusl after dawn and sleeping or eating after the ghusl, even though adopting what the majority of the Maliki school holds is better to avoid the difference of opinion. As for the reward (thawab), it is among the matters of the unseen (al-ghayb), and it is hoped that a Muslim will receive reward if they perform the act of worship in the manner prescribed in the , with sincerity ()."
