The distinguishing signs of a woman's maniy (seminal fluid) from other fluids are: its color is thin and yellowish, and it may be whitish. Its smell resembles the spathe of a palm tree or dough, and when it dries, its smell is like eggs. Its expulsion is accompanied by pleasure and a subsiding of desire. As for madhiy (pre-seminal fluid), it is a thin, white, sticky fluid that is discharged upon arousal without gushing, and it is not followed by a subsiding of desire. One may not even feel its expulsion. If the questioner does not find the characteristics of maniy, then it is likely madhiy. Madhiy is impure and invalidates ablution (wudu'). It necessitates washing whatever it contaminates on one's clothes and body, but it does not necessitate a full ritual bath (ghusl (definition)). As for maniy, it is pure according to the preponderant opinion, and it is recommended to wash it from clothes. Its expulsion necessitates ghusl. If a woman is uncertain between the two, she may choose one and apply its ruling.
