The question

Are there any jurisprudential sayings in the schools of thought that permit lightening the washing of the face according to what people are accustomed to, and suffice with water reaching the roots of the hair without completely washing the hair on the arms and legs, and exempting from introducing water into the cracks of the feet, in order to get rid of obsessive thoughts regarding ablution?

The answer

The cure for waswas (obsessive whispering) in ablution is to disregard it and pay no attention to it. When washing the face, water should be made to reach all of it without undue effort, and do not exceed three washes. Similarly, for the hands and feet, pour water over the entire limb three times without paying heed to the doubts cast by Satan.

The width of the face is defined as the area between the earlobes, and according to the majority of scholars, it is obligatory to wash everything that is called a face. As for the hair on the hands and feet, washing their roots entails washing the visible parts, and this is achieved by pouring water to cover them.

Regarding crevices, if a crevice is deep within the skin, it is not obligatory to make water reach its interior. If it is visible, then water must reach it simply by pouring water over the limb. By discarding waswas, the difficulty in purification and acts of worship will be removed.
