The question

Does the exemption for the constancy of water exiting the mouth during sleep mean every day or most days? What is the evidence for the impurity of this water if it comes from the stomach? What is the meaning of "impurely mixed, not inherently impure," and is this a matter of dispute?

The answer

1. If a sleeping person is afflicted with excessive discharge of fluid from the stomach during sleep, they are excused due to hardship. The meaning of "afflicted" here is that the discharge is always frequent and rarely absent.

2. The fluid discharged from the stomach is impure (najis) because it exited from a place of impurity.

3. The term "added water" (al-ma' al-mudhaf) refers to water that has changed due to a pure substance, such as milk. It is considered pure, not impure.

4. The fluid that flows from the mouth of a sleeping person: if it is from the soft palate (al-lahawāt), it is pure. If it is from the stomach, it is impure by scholarly consensus.
