The answer

That which does not intoxicate among alcohols is not impure, because the default state of things is purity, and it is not wine (). Some types of alcohol may be classified as poisons rather than intoxicants, and in this case, their ruling differs as to whether they are pure or impure.

The substance (sorbitol) was not ruled impure. Rather, it was clarified that intoxicating alcohol is not permissible to use unless it transforms into something else, and that the answer is conditional on the alcohol in question being intoxicating or impure. As for non-intoxicating alcohols, they are not ruled impure. One should refer to specialists to determine whether they are intoxicating or not.
