What is the ruling on one who suffers from issues concerning purity (taharah), prayer (salat), and ritual impurity (najasa)? Should he pray in his current state, with a strong presumption of ritual impurity in his home? Does ritual impurity disappear with the passage of days? Does the phrase "religion is ease" permit him to lighten some of the religious obligations? And how can he overcome the problem of repeatedly abandoning prayer?
Abandoning prayer is one of the gravest sins. One must repent and maintain it. What helps in this regard is associating with righteous people, making abundant supplications (du’a), and striving against one's self, in accordance with the Almighty’s saying: "And those who strive for Us – We will surely guide them to Our ways." As for impurity, it is not judged merely by doubt. The default is the purity of a thing until certainty of its impurity is attained. If impurity is certain, it must be purified by pouring water over it until it is covered. If the impurity has a physical substance, that substance should be removed, then its location washed. A ritually impure spot does not become pure by the passage of time, except for the earth and what is connected to it, which become pure by drying, according to many scholars.
