The answer

If a patient is certain that the discharge has stopped, there is no harm in removing the diaper and sitting on the bedding. The default is to take his word as truthful. However, if it becomes clear that the furnishings are being soiled by some of his urine, then it is necessary to take precautions for prayer by washing the feet before prayer and by using a clean prayer mat.

The default state of these furnishings is purity, and they are not deemed impure based on mere doubt. If impurity is certain and its location is known, then it is sufficient to purify them by pouring water over the affected area until it covers it, without the need to lift and wash them if that is difficult.

So, if an infant who has not yet eaten solid food urinates on the bedding, it is sufficient to sprinkle water over the soiled area. If the infant has eaten solid food, or if it is a female child, then washing is necessary by pouring water over the impure spot, without the need to remove or wring out the bedding, by analogy with purifying the earth, as in the of the Bedouin who urinated in the mosque.
