What is the ruling on the transfer of impurity from a dark carpet that has dried impurity on it, the trace of which is not visible, when one walks on it with a wet foot? And is it permissible to adopt the view of the Malikis that the ruling [of impurity] does not transfer if the substance of the impurity has ceased to exist? And is it sufficient to wash the entire carpet with a steam mop instead of washing with water?

If the impurity is removed and no trace of it remains, then, according to some scholars, it is not transferred when a wet foot passes over it. It is permissible to follow this opinion, as impurity is not transferred merely by doubt, and its ruling is not transferred except by certain conviction. As for a ritually impure carpet, it is purified by washing it with steam until the impurity itself is removed.
