What is the alternative to dust for Tayammum, and is it permissible to perform Tayammum with a light stone that removes dead skin, or a red brick, or a gypsum stone?

Scholars have differed on the permissibility of performing tayammum (definition) with substances other than dust (turāb) that are of the earth's kind. It is more cautious not to perform tayammum with anything other than dust, to avoid divergence of opinion. Some scholars are of the view that it is permissible to perform tayammum with anything that is of the earth's kind, such as stones and sand, basing their argument on the fact that "al-sa'īd" (الصعيد) refers to the surface of the earth in its absolute sense. However, anything that ceases to be called "al-sa'īd" due to industrial processing, like "red bricks," cannot be used for tayammum.
