What is the ruling regarding the ablution of someone whose nose is blocked and has performed tayammum with the intention for the nose? And when should this tayammum be performed? Is his ablution valid if he wipes his hands before his face or vice versa, given the opinion that sniffing water into the nose (istinchāq) is obligatory? What is the ruling regarding his ablution if a small amount of water enters the pharynx after istinchāq, given the opinion that expelling water from the nose (istinthār) is obligatory? Is mucus or dry mucus in the nose considered a barrier to water? Is it sufficient to introduce water only to the beginning of the nose?

Rinsing the mouth (madmadah) and sniffing water into the nose (istinsahaq) are Sunnah (definition), not obligatory acts. Therefore, if one is unable to perform istinshaq, nothing is required of them. However, for those who hold it to be obligatory, it is not required to get water into the entire nose; rather, a slight inhalation of water with the breath is sufficient. If one is completely unable to perform istinshaq, then according to the Hanbalis, they must perform tayammum (definition) (dry ablution). Those afflicted with waswasah (obsessive doubts) are advised to act upon the opinion that madmadah and istinshaq are merely recommended, as a means of easing their burden.
