Scholars differed concerning the ruling on facing or backing the while relieving oneself inside buildings. The majority opinion is that it is permissible, and this is the more preponderant view. However, it is more cautious to avoid doing so to escape the difference of opinion. Therefore, the engineer designing restrooms should take this into consideration. As for Saudi Arabia, those close to the Kaaba must face its exact location, while for those far from it, facing its general direction suffices.
