The answer

It is permissible to wipe over the socks under certain conditions. The duration for wiping is one day and one night for a resident, and three days and three nights for a traveler. The period begins from the first nullification of ablution () after wearing them, and ends at the same time on the following day for a resident, and on the fourth day for a traveler. If the period ends, wiping is no longer permissible. To renew it, one must remove the socks, wash the feet, and then put them on after performing a complete ablution.
