The question

What are the rulings on quoting from the Holy Qur’an, and what is the ruling on one who uses Qur’anic verses out of their intended meaning? Is it considered disbelief if the intention is to distort their meanings? What is the ruling on one who quotes the verse "أفتوني في رؤياي" (Interpret my vision for me) in a song accompanied by musical instruments? What is the ruling on the use of the verse "وسقاهم ربهم شراباً طهوراً" (And their Lord gave them to drink a pure drink) by juice sellers? And what is the ruling on Qur’anic quotation in religious chants?

The answer

Quotation is the inclusion of some Qur’an in poetry or prose, not as part of it, and its ruling ranges between good (حسن), disliked (مكروه), and unlawful (حرام). It is acceptable in sermons and admonitions, permissible in speech and letters, and rejected if what Allah has特化 for Himself is attributed to a created being, or if it is in the sense of jest. It must be noted that reciting the Qur’an for a purpose other than that for which it was revealed, and distorting its words, is not permissible. This applies to quotation in songs, anthems, and shops.
