The question

How can the relationship between the stories of the Prophets (Adam, Children of Israel, Abraham) in the first part of Surat Al-Baqarah and the rulings and legislations in its second part be understood, especially with the verse, "To Allah belongs what is in the heavens and what is in the earth. And whether you disclose what is in your souls or conceal it, Allah will bring you to account for it"?

The answer

Surat Al-Baqarah is one of the greatest chapters of the Qur'an; taking it is a blessing and abandoning it is a regret. It consists of an introduction, four main themes, and a conclusion. The mentioned the story of Adam (peace be upon him) to show that prophethood is an ancient matter. Then it discussed the Children of Israel in four sections: their past with Moses, their contemporaries during the Muhammadan mission, the early Muslims since Abraham, and the present of Muslims at the time of the mission. The surah also presented the history of Abraham (peace be upon him) and his connection to this nation, and its conclusion affirms the success of its call and its fulfillment of its promise to the believers. And the statement that Surat Al-Baqarah came to speak about three caliphs on Earth is an overly forced and unnecessary interpretation.
