Al-Baydawi mentioned in his that "safah" (folly/foolishness) is applied to a lack of intellect and forbearance, and to what that entails of levity and unsoundness of opinion. He added that the hypocrites accused the believers of safah because they believed their opinion was corrupt, or to belittle their status, or to show resilience and indifference to those among them who believed.
