Is it narrated from the Prophet (peace be upon him) or from the Companions that they would kiss the Quran and rub it on their faces before recitation?

There is no explicit legal text about kissing the Mushaf (definition) (copy of the Qur'an). Some scholars have deemed it permissible and even commendable, by analogy with the glorification of the Holy Qur'an and the action of 'Ikrimah ibn Abi Jahl, may Allah be pleased with him. Others believe it to be an innovation (bid'ah) due to the lack of evidence that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, or his companions did it, and this is what the Permanent Committee adopted. As for Ibn Baz, may Allah have mercy on him, he was of the view that there is no harm in it, but refraining from it is better due to the lack of evidence. However, if one does it out of glorification and love, there is no objection. Ibn al-Haj said: The honor and glorification of the Mushaf lie in reading it and acting upon it, not in kissing it.
