Is it permissible not to recite the memorized surahs when reading the Qur’an outside of prayer, and to suffice with reciting them only within prayer?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
The Qur’an should be recited completely at least once every month, based on the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) statement to Abdullah ibn Amr: "Recite the Qur’an every month." I said, "I find strength..." until he said, "Then recite it in seven [days], and do not exceed that." It is permissible to recite the Qur’an in order or out of order. However, it is disliked to reverse the order [of surahs or verses] in prayer, such that one recites a before its preceding one, or the end of a surah before its beginning. Reversing the order is permissible outside of prayer.
