What is the ruling on one who forgets to recite one or two pages of the Qur’an after reciting part or all of a Juz’ (section), and must he repeat the entire recitation, or is it sufficient for him to recite only the forgotten pages?

It is better for the reciter to recite the Quran in the order found in the Mushaf (definition) (bound copy of the Quran), but if one surah (definition) is recited before another, there is no sin in that. This is supported by the fact that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, recited Surah An-Nisa before Surah Al-Imran. Therefore, it is not obligatory to read the pages that were forgotten; rather, one is rewarded for reading them, and it is not necessary to read what comes after them with them. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever recites a letter from thebook of Allah, he will be credited with a good deed, and a good deed gets a tenfold reward. I do not say that Alif-Lam-Mim is one letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter, and Mim is a letter." Furthermore, there is no accountability for forgetting, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, Allah has pardoned for my Ummah their mistakes, their forgetfulness, and what they are forced to do."
