What is the ruling on saying: "Aʿūdhu billāhi min ash-shayṭāni r-rajīm" (I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan) with the Basmala in the middle of a Quranic recitation?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
It is recommended to say the الاستعاذة (seeking refuge in Allah) when starting recitation. It is not required during recitation unless the reciter interrupts their recitation and engages in something unrelated to it, in which case they should repeat the الاستعاذة as a recommendation. As for the Basmala (Bismillah, in the name of Allah), it is recited when starting any except Surah Bara'ah (At-), and it is prescribed during a surah, even if it is Surah Bara'ah.
