What is the ruling on reciting silently with the Imam and supplicating in the obligatory and Sunnah prayers?

A worshiper's supplication for himself and for those he loves is desirable in prayer, especially in places of supplication such as bowing (rukūʿ), prostration (sujūd), and after the tashahhud (definition). The best of these is prostration, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The closest a servant is to his Lord is when he is prostrating, so increase your supplications therein." It is sunnah (definition) to supplicate with the reported supplications, and it is permissible to do so with others, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Then let him choose the supplication that he finds most pleasing." As for recitation in loud prayers, the follower should listen attentively to the Imam and not recite anything except Al-Fatiha.
