Does one who is estranged from his brother prevent him from forgiveness, even if he has a daily litany such as seeking forgiveness 1,000 times and fasting the Day of Arafah and Ashura, based on the hadith: "The gates of Paradise are opened on Monday and Thursday, and Allah forgives every servant who does not associate anything with Allah, except a man between whom and his brother there is animosity. It is said, 'Wait for these two until they reconcile'"?

Sincere repentance for a single sin is accepted by the majority of scholars, and it is not a condition for repenting from a specific sin that one must repent from all other sins. Repentance can be compartmentalized. So, if someone repents from one sin and persists in another that is unrelated or of a different type, their repentance is valid. However, if the other sin is of the same type or related to it, then the repentance is not valid. The intention behind the Hadith (definition) about animosity is that the only sin unforgiven for those harboring animosity is the sin of animosity itself until they reconcile, whereas their other sins will have their repentance accepted if it is sincere repentance.
