Is drinking the milk of the sacrificial animal permissible?

Scholars have differed regarding the ruling on drinking the milk of the sacrificial animal (udhiyah (definition)). The Maliki school holds that it is permissible for the owner of the sacrifice to drink its milk. The Hanbali school maintains that only the milk in excess of what its offspring needs, provided it does not harm the animal, may be drunk. The Shafi'i school, however, is of the view that the milk of the sacrificial animal should be given away as charity. The more likely correct opinion is that of the Maliki school, permitting its consumption, based on the principle that the default status of things is permissibility unless there is evidence to prohibit it.
