The answer

The sacrificial animal () is sufficient for a man and his household. A single sheep is only sufficient for one person, and sharing in it is forbidden. However, the permissible form of sharing is in the reward (thawab), where a man sacrifices and includes his family in the reward of his sacrifice. Ibn al-Qayyim stated that a sheep is sufficient for a man and his household, even if their number is large. Scholars are unanimous that a ram is sufficient for only one person.

It is permissible for a wife to donate money from her own wealth to her husband for him to buy the sacrificial animal, so that he becomes the one offering the sacrifice, and he includes his family in the reward. The reverse is also permissible: for the husband to donate money to his wife, and the sacrifice becomes hers, and she includes her husband in the reward. The reward primarily belongs to the one offering the sacrifice, with others included dependently. There is no harm in the wife assisting her husband with the price of the sacrificial animal if he does not possess sufficient funds.
