It is not permissible to slaughter a calf as an if it is below the recognized age, as the same conditions apply to the aqiqah as to the (sacrificial animal) in terms of species, age, and freedom from defects. The recognized age for cattle is "thani," which is an animal that has completed two years and entered its third, or one that has completed three years and entered its fourth.
