The question

What is the ruling of Islamic law on slaughtering the Eid al-Adha sacrifice in a manner that was not quick and efficient, leading to the suffering of the sacrificial animal, and does sin result from this? What is required to be done regarding this error? Is it a condition to say "Bismillah" (in the name of Allah) and supplicate when slaughtering? And does publishing the slaughter on social media and seeking people's praise for it affect the sincerity of the act for the sake of Allah?

The answer

The Shariah-compliant slaughter (Dhakah Shar'iyyah) involves cutting the four jugular veins (the trachea, the esophagus, and the two carotid arteries surrounding them). The short duration of the slaughter and the struggling of the animal do not indicate torture. Doubt concerning the omission of the Tasmiyah (uttering "Bismillah" - in the name of Allah) at the time of slaughter does not cause harm, as it is well-known that it is dropped due to forgetfulness, and the meat of an animal slaughtered by someone who forgot to say it is permissible to eat. As for saying 'Allahu Akbar' (Allah is the Greatest) and supplicating for acceptance when offering the sacrifice (), it is commendable (mustahabb), not obligatory. Feeling joy when people become aware of one's good deeds and praise them is not considered blameworthy ostentation (riya') if the joy stems from Allah's good making and kindness, and not from seeking people's praise and status.
